The Uttarakhand Congress has criticised the BJP government of the State for its attempt to depict Ardh Kumbh in Haridwar in 2027 as Kumbh. The chief spokesperson of State Congress Garima Dasauni said that the attempt of the government is not only an effort to fiddle with the facts but an infringement on religious beliefs.
She said that the ancient texts have provided a clear definition of Kumbh and Ardh Kumbh. The scriptures are of the view that Kumbh is a rare celestial event created by specific positions of Sun, Moon and Brahaspati (Jupiter). Dasauni said that while Kumbh is organised after every 12 years, the Ardh Kumbh is held after every six years and its beliefs are separate and clear.
“To depict Ardh Kumbh as Kumbh is not certified by our scriptures and such an attempt is not only a breach of religious dignity but amounts to fiddling with the faith of crores of people,’’ she said.
The Congress leader said that earlier also the image of Uttarakhand got a battering when the Kumbh scam occurred during the BJP government and now the government is trying to present Ardh Kumbh as Kumbh. She claimed that the Saints are also not happy with the government for such an attempt. Dasauni said that the government should refrain from fiddling with religious sentiments for petty politics.
