PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun
The newly appointed Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Ganesh Godiyal visited the site near Parade Ground on Tuesday where the Uttarakhand Purva Sainik Kalyan Nigam Limited (UPNL) workers have been holding protest for the past 10 days and extended full support of the Congress party to them. He said that the State government is not listening to the voice of the UPNL workers which is an insult to justice. The PCC president said that the fact that the UPNL workers have been sitting on the protest for the last ten days shows that the government has become totally insensitive and apathetic.
Terming UPNL workers as the backbone of the State, Godiyal said that the State government should immediately hold dialogue with them. He said that the Congress party stands with the UPNL workers and will not back off till the workers get justice.
Godiyal said that the UPNL workers are demanding equal pay for equal work, minimum wage and service protection which are the basic demands but the BJP government has maintained a stoic and deliberate silence on their justified demands. He said that the government should work on a time bound framework to solve the demands of the UPNL workers and implement a transparent policy on their employment and security. Godiyal said that the Congress party will appreciate the government if it solves the problems of the UPNL workers.
