PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami carried out a surprise inspection at the Inter State Bus Terminal (ISBT) in Dehradun on Tuesday and picked up a broom after noticing dirt and trash in several areas of the bus terminal. His sudden arrival to the ISBT from the secretariat created a stir among officials as he moved across the premises to review cleanliness, passenger facilities, operational setups and transport management. During the inspection, he expressed clear dissatisfaction over the presence of waste at multiple spots inside the terminal. He said that negligence in maintaining cleanliness at an important public transport centre will not be accepted. By sweeping the premises himself, he indicated that cleanliness efforts must reflect on the ground and not remain limited to administrative claims. Dhami also directed officials of the Transport department and Mussoorie-Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) to ensure regular cleaning across the terminal, install information boards related to cleanliness and provide a dust-free environment for passengers. He instructed MDDA vice chairman Banshidhar Tiwari to prepare an action plan for immediate improvement of sanitation and overall arrangements at the ISBT.

Besides this, Dhami also inspected bus operations, ticket counters, waiting areas, drinking water points, toilets, shops and security arrangements. He said that Uttarakhand receives a large number of tourists and pilgrims every year and transport hubs like bus stations and railway stations must maintain proper cleanliness and facilities to support smooth travel. Dhami interacted with passengers present at the terminal and sought their feedback. He asked them about issues faced during travel and invited suggestions for improving services. He said that public feedback forms an important part of system improvements. He also stated that the State government will soon launch a statewide cleanliness campaign with public participation. He warned officials that during his next inspection, the ISBT must show complete improvement or action will be taken against those responsible. Senior officials from the Transport department and MDDA were present during the inspection.
