Eleven landlords were fined a total amount of Rs 1.10 lakh under the Police Act after Doon Police carried out a verification drive in the Doiwala and Premnagar areas of the city on Monday. In addition, 22 persons were fined Rs 6,000 for not providing proper verification details while they were questioned by police.
This action followed the instructions of the senior superintendent of police (SSP) Dehradun to identify suspicious persons to keep the city safe from trouble. During the drive, police teams checked outsiders and tenants living in different localities, including Suddhowala, Jail Road, NTPC Colony, Shivpuri, Laltappar and Doiwala town. The police had first collected information about them and then verified their identity details.
Police found that several house owners had not completed tenant verification as per the police norms. They said that such verification drives would continue in coming days too and those to be found on the wrong side of the norms would be appropriately acted against.
