The State Cabinet minister Satpal Maharaj visited AIIMS, Rishikesh on Thursday to inquire about the health of 36-year-old Kanchan Devi, a resident of Devradi village under Pokhara development block, who had been seriously injured in a leopard attack. He spoke to the doctors treating her and urged them to provide her with proper care and treatment.
Notably, concerned over the incident, he had spoken to the district magistrate on Wednesday and instructed him to immediately airlift her to AIIMS Rishikesh for her treatment.
Visibly concerned over the surge in wildlife attacks under the limits of Chaubattakhal Assembly constituency he represents, Maharaj spoke to the Forest minister Subodh Uniyal, too and requested him to study and take all necessary steps to ensure the safety of the people. “Due to global warming, the animals have become more ferocious in their behaviour.
Apart from this, due to excessive rainfall this time, the excessive humidity in their habitat has prevented them from sleeping for long during the winter. Lack of food in the forests is also considered a major reason due to which they are straying into the rural areas close to forest and attacking people,” he noted.
He urged villagers not to go anywhere alone and to take full care of their safety.
