Dehradun police to open 6 traffic stations to tackle jam

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE /Dehradun

Traffic congestion in Dehradun has become a major concern, and to tackle this issue, the Police are planning to open six new traffic police stations across the district. Out of these, four will be set up in Dehradun city while one each will come in Rishikesh and Vikasnagar

Informing this, the Dehradun senior superintendent of police (SSP) Pramendra Dobal said that a one-month study on traffic management has been conducted. “Based on this study, and following the model used in metropolitan cities, the police are taking steps to set up dedicated traffic police stations here as well. Traffic Inspectors (TI) will be assigned specific areas and they will be given headquarters from where traffic duties, fines and enforcement actions will be managed,” he said.

Dobal also mentioned that the number of tow vehicles would be increased. Currently, there are nine tow vehicles, but the plan is to increase this number to 20.

He further said that this system will help reinforce accountability.  “The traffic in-charges concerned will be responsible for managing traffic in their respective areas,” he said.

Traffic congestion is already a major issue in Dehradun and it is expected to worsen in the coming days due to the Char Dham Yatra and the opening of the Delhi-Dehradun highway, which will bring additional traffic into the city.
