The Food Safety and Drug Administration department organised a workshop for restaurant owners and managers in Dehradun on Sunday to promote food safety and hygiene standards. Assistant commissioner (Food Safety) Manish Sayana informed restaurant operators about the rules under the Food Safety and Standards Act. He advised them to ensure regular medical check-ups of employees, maintain cleanliness, control pests and follow proper temperature management practices for food storage and preparation.

Restaurant managers were also instructed not to reuse cooking oil repeatedly, as it can be harmful to health. They were asked to install Food Safety Display Boards and encourage staff members to undergo FOSTAC (Food Safety Training and Certification) training. The workshop was attended by representatives of several food establishments. Senior Food Safety officers and Food Court manager Atul Baluni were also present. Meanwhile, the FDA continued its inspection drive in different parts of the city. Officials inspected food establishments in the Race Course and Rajivnagar areas and collected samples of pickle and paneer for laboratory testing.

Sayana said that the samples have been sent to a food testing laboratory. Appropriate action will be taken according to the rules after the test reports are received. The department said that such awareness programs and inspections will continue to ensure safe and quality food for consumers.
