The director general of Medical Health and Family Welfare of Uttarakhand Dr Sunita Tamta expressed displeasure over the low number of OPD, cardiac surgeries and other cases at the Cardiac Care Unit of Deen Dayal Upadhyay district hospital during her inspection on Monday.
She directed the in-charge to increase the treatment of cardiac patients. During the visit, she also instructed the in-charge of Meditrina Hospital operating under PPP mode to repair the damaged furniture in the patient waiting area and ensure adequate human resources at the unit. She asked for immediate appointment of cardiothoracic surgeons after the resignation of one doctor two days earlier and also directed for regular deployment of an anaesthetist.
She directed the officials to ensure that a cardiologist is available round-the-clock. Tamta instructed the hospital authorities to organise camps in remote areas for wider outreach. She inspected the under-construction blood bank building and asked the executing agency to complete the work without delay.
In the outpatient waiting area, she directed the addition of three-seater benches for patients and attendants. She interacted with patients and their relatives, who expressed satisfaction with the hospital’s arrangements. In the emergency section, she found staff present in proper uniforms and instructed that bleaching solutions be maintained as per norms. She observed proper cleanliness, biomedical waste management and functioning facilities.
She noted an increase in OPD, IPD and bed capacity and appreciated the efforts of the chief medical superintendent. She directed the superintendent to ensure that all emergency medical officers promptly refer cardiac patients to Meditrina Hospital without delay. Tamta also inspected the multi-storey parking and expressed satisfaction while being informed that efforts are underway to increase parking capacity. She instructed all medical officers, nursing staff and other employees to maintain cordial and polite behaviour with patients and attendants.
