In a rare show of unity all the senior leaders of the Uttarakhand attended the programme organised by former chief minister Harish Rawat to felicitate the party MLAs at Rajiv Bhawan here on Friday. Impressed by the vehement protest registered by the Congress MLAs on the floor of the house during the recent monsoon session of Vidhan Sabha, Rawat had organised a programme to honour the MLAs. The programme was attended by the Pradesh Congress Committee president Karan Mahara, leader of opposition in Vidhan Sabha Yashpal Arya, former PCC president Pritam Singh and Ganesh Godiyal, former cabinet ministers Harak Singh Rawat and Hira Singh Bisht.
Speaking on the occasion former CM Rawat said in the recent Panchayat elections, the abduction of democracy was done by the goons supported by the BJP and the Congress party registered its protest in an effective manner in Vidhan Sabha. He said that the protest is a tool in democracy and said that there was a time when the BJP MPs stalled the proceedings of parliament for three consecutive sessions. Rawat added that in 2014 when he was CM, the BJP legislators had threatened to sit on a dharna inside the house during the night but he persuaded them against the idea by meeting them thrice but in recent monsoon session in Bharadisain no such attempt was made to address the issue of the opposition.
The PCC president Karan Mahara accused the Vidhan Sabha speaker Ritu Khanduri for being hand in glove with BJP. He said that the speaker falsely implicated the Congress MLAs for damaging the furniture. Mahara said that the Congress party will now hit the road and hold protests against the government and the speaker.
The leader of opposition (LoP) Yashpal Arya said that the government was not in position to answer the questions of the opposition so it curtailed the session and is now blaming the opposition. Former PCC president Ganesh Godiyal, Pritam Singh and former cabinet ministers Harak Singh Rawat and Hira Singh Bisht also addressed the party workers.
