Dilapidated govt college building forces students to enroll elsewhere

The dilapidated building of the Government Inter College, Mangoli located in Bhimtal block needs immediate renovation to avert an accident. At present, the condition of the main building of the college aside from the laboratory and playground is so precarious that these may crumble down any time.
Feeling that the danger facing them was real, the parents keep withdrawing their children. Notably, over 400 students used to study here following its up-gradation. The number has been plummeting fast due to the fear palpable among the students and their parents. .
Asked to comment on the danger of collapse hanging over the students and others, the chairman of the school’s management committee, Hukum Singh Adhikari said that letters were being sent to the Education department continuously, drawing its attention to the impending danger, adding that the students are now being made to sit in alternative classes during the rainy season.
Further, a memorandum was served to the Nainital MLA Sarita Arya by senior functionaries of the local
Panchayat, expressing concern over the safety of the students studying in such dangerously dilapidated buildings.
Speaking on the matter, the president of the Teachers Parents Association, Indra Singh Koranga said that given the grim state of the college buildings, they are enrolling their children in schools elsewhere, in Nainital and Kaladhungi. “This may disrupt the academic continuity of the students,” he added.
