PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun
The Dehradun district administration has acquired five hotels to provide temporary shelter for families affected by the heavy rainfall and flash floods in Sahastradhara and nearby areas since Monday night.
Following the widespread damage and displacement caused between September 15 and 16, the administration took this decision under the Disaster Management Act to ensure immediate relief and safe accommodation for those impacted, the Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal said. The hotels are Vibes Inn, Hotel Iceberg, Heli Resort and Restaurant, Hotel Hill View and Pearl Inn.
The DM informed that the administration has directed the identified hotels to operate as 24×7 relief centres, equipped with adequate facilities for the displaced. Each hotel has been assigned nodal officers for smooth coordination and to address urgent requirements. The administration has also clarified that all expenses incurred for accommodating affected families will be borne by the government at standard rates.
Bansal said that the district administration currently prioritises safety and rehabilitation and taking all possible measures to ensure no affected family remains without shelter during the crisis. All officers have been directed to remain on alert mode day and night, he added.
