With Dehradun’s temperature climbing above  40 degrees Celsius, doctors have warned that heatstroke cases could rise among residents, reporting symptoms like weakness and fever, among others. Warning that the soaring mercury has heightened the risk of ‘Loo’, they have urged people to take necessary precautions to avoid heat-related illness.

Senior physician at Deen Dayal Upadhyay District Hospital Dr Praveen Panwar said that the sudden rise in temperature has increased the chances of ‘Loo’ among residents. He said that considering this, resident footfall at the OPD has increased due to heatstroke, where they are showing symptoms of fever, weakness, fainting, muscle pain and others. He said that the ongoing temperature is leading to heatstroke, so to avoid any ailments related to this, people are advised to avoid going outside during the peak period from 10 AM to 4 PM. Increase water intake and also use a wet cloth for the head and neck area so that water deficiency does not occur in the body and the body does not get heated up, he said.

Further, another senior physician at Combined Medical Institute (CMI) Hospital Dr Anshika Jain, said that the rise in temperature, along with less consumption of water, has increased OPD cases of heatstroke nowadays. During this, residents are suffering from fever, dehydration and weakness. She further added that people who are more frequently outside are suffering more from heatstroke and are more prone to it. So, in view of preventing this, individuals, especially those going outside, are urged to take precautions, which include avoiding going outside unnecessarily. If going outside is important, ensure that they go out while covering their body. Additionally, residents should increase water intake during this ongoing rise in mercury levels.
