Uttarakhand Congress hopes to emulate Kerala result in the State

The results of the Vidhan Sabha elections in the five States have made the leaders of both Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress in Uttarakhand happy. While there is an atmosphere of celebration in ruling BJP as the party secured emphatic victory in Assam securing third consecutive victory in the State and breaking the citadel Mamata Banerjee in West Bengal to form the first saffron government in the eastern State. Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami celebrated the success in West Bengal and Assam with State party president Mahendra Bhatt and party workers at the State office of the party. The Congress camp on the other hand are expressing happiness at the return of the party in power in the southern State of Kerala. The Congress which is almost decimated in most parts of the country will now be in power in three southern States of Karnataka, Telangana and Kerala.
The victory of Congress led United Democratic Front (UDF) in Kerala where the party is coming back to power after a gap of ten years has given some confidence to the Congress leaders and workers in Uttarakhand. The party workers believe that like it happened in Kerala, the Congress is on a comeback trail to power in the Himalayan State. After coming to power in the Vidhan Sabha elections of 2012, the Congress is on a continuous losing streak in Uttarakhand. The BJP has scored a clean sweep in the Lok Sabha elections in Uttarakhand in 2014, 2019 and 2024 and secured emphatic victories in the Vidhan Sabha elections of 2017 and 2022.
Commenting on the results of Vidhan Sabha elections of West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam and Puducherry, the Pradesh Congress Committee president Ganesh Godiyal said that in all these states barring Assam, the people have given a mandate of change. “In Kerala, the Congress party has come back to power after a gap of 10 years. The people of Uttarakhand will vote for change in 2027 and Congress will come back to power after 10 years,’’ he said.
