Four employees of the Corbett Tiger Reserve have been suspended following a security lapse during the visit of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on July 5. The action was taken after a probe ordered when it came to light that the official government jeep (Gypsy) used for the CM’s jungle safari did not have valid fitness certification.
According to the investigation, the Gypsy in which the fitness certificate of the Gypsy in which the CM and Corbett director undertook the jungle safari had expired in 2020. The issue drew attention at the state level, prompting Forest minister Subodh Uniyal to order a probe into the matter.
CTR director Saket Badola confirmed the suspension of four staff members for negligence. Those suspended include the Gypsy driver Mohammed Umar, storekeeper Gajendra Mehra and staff members Irshad and Pankaj, who were on duty during the CM’s visit.
Badola averred that no compromise will be tolerated regarding the chief minister’s security. He added that despite the lapse, the CM’s visit to Corbett was a positive experience. He also hinted at the probability of the chief minister announcing new developmental initiatives for the area in question.
