Four sent to judicial custody in religious conversion case

Four persons were sent to judicial custody on the orders of the court in a case of attempted illegal religious conversion. According to the Dehradun police, a young woman in Ranipokhari area was targeted by Abdur Rehman and his accomplices who had attempted to lure her into converting. The woman’s family members lodged a police complaint and based on this the police registered a case under the Uttarakhand Freedom of Religion Act. During investigation of the case, the names of Abdur Rehman alias Rupendra Singh along with SV Krishna alias Ayesha Mahenur, Abdul Rehman alias Mahendra Pal, Abu Talib and other persons came to light. The accused had been arrested by the Agra police in Uttar Pradesh in a religious conversion case registered there. Based on the documents and electronic evidence collected against the accused during investigation of the case lodged in Ranipokhri, the police had submitted an application for B warrant in the court. On the directions of the court, the Agra police presented the four accused- Abdul Rehman, Ayesha Mahenur, Abdur Rehman and Abu Talib in the court here on Saturday. Based on the evidence presented in the court, the four accused were sent to the district jail in Suddhowala under judicial custody by the court.
According to the police, Abdul Rehman hails from Delhi, Ayesha Mahenur hails from Goa, Abdur Rehman belongs to Mainpuri district in Uttar Pradesh while Abu Talib hails from Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh.
