GBPUAT and IARI, New Delhi ink MoU for agricultural innovation

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology (GBPUAT), Pantnagar, and the ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). The agreement aimed to enhance cooperation in agricultural research, seed production, technological development, academic collaboration and innovation, GBPUAT sources said.
The vice-chancellor, GBPUAT, Manmohan Singh Chauhan and the VC and director of IARI, New Delhi, Srinivasa Rao signed the agreement. It was attended by IARI joint director of Research, Vishwanath Chunnuswamy and the head of Genetics division, Gopal Krishnan.
Chauhan said that special focus would be on seed production of IARI-developed varieties, ensuring quality seeds reach Indian farmers. He also stressed on maize seed production with maize being increasingly used for ethanol production on a large scale.
Rao spoke of various food grains, pulses and oilseed varieties developed by IARI and emphasised the need for self-reliance to achieve the vision of a developed India.
