GDMC & District Hospital see surge in injury & allergy cases during Holi

The emergency wings of the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) Hospital and Deen Dayal Upadhyaya District Hospital have received a large number of cases of accidents, injuries and skin allergies among others on the day of Holi. While GDMC Hospital provided treatment to 610 patients, 241 patients were treated in the emergency department during the Holi celebrations..
Notably, each year on the day of Holi, these hospitals record a sudden spurt in cases related to skin allergies, accidents and eye allergies among others. This year was no exception, the hospital sources said.
The principal of GDMC Hospital, Dr Geeta Jain reported that a total of 610 patients had received emergency care from 8AM on March 4, 2025, to 8AM on March 5, 2025. Out of these, 44 patients were admitted. The emergency cases included 47 road traffic accidents (RTAs), 26 assaults, 123 injuries from falls and 370 incidents due to various other causes. Two road mishap fatalities had been recorded, too.
“Six persons who visited the Emergency department were admitted for special observation,” she said, adding that the hospital management had made all necessary medical preparations for Holi to ensure prompt care for every patient.
The public relations officer (PRO) at the District Hospital, Pramod Panwar reported that a total of 241 cases had been handled in the Emergency department during the Holi celebration. He detailed that among these cases, 38 were related to injuries from fights, 64 were accident-related, 26 involved dog bites and the remaining cases included skin allergy, among others. He said that timely treatment had been provided to all patients.
On the occasion of Holi, two emergency medical officers were stationed at the hospital to deliver prompt care, while additional doctors were on standby on calls. Besides, the skin and eye specialist visited the hospital as required.
