The Rajkiya Shikshak Sangh (RSS), the association of government school lecturers, marched from the Parade Ground to the chief minister’s residence in Dehradun on Wednesday to address their long-standing demands. The march was stopped by the Police near Hathibadkala.
RSS president Ram Singh Chauhan stated that for the past two years, the organisation has been demanding 100 per cent promotion of teachers, the cancellation of the departmental direct recruitment examination for the Principals and 34-point demand letter. However, the government has not taken any notice of their concerns.
Consequently, the RSS members (teachers) decided to march towards the CM residence on Wednesday, beginning from the Parade Ground. Although police officials attempted to stop them at the Parade Ground by setting up barricades, the RSS members managed to cross them, he said. Chauhan claimed that during the protest, many teachers from Haridwar and other districts were stopped from joining the march, but their dedication allowed them to participate.
Later a delegation of teachers met the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami for discussion. The CM ordered that secretary personnel, secretary Education and the director general of school education should hold a meeting with the representative of the RSS and act on their demands as per the regulations.
