Unnecessary to escalate issue after MLA’s apology, says BJP

PIONEER NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

The Bharatiya Janata Party has stated that the issue of the alleged assault on the Prime Education director should not be escalated unncessarily considering that the party had sought an explanation from its Raipur MLA who had also apologised after the incident.

The BJP State president and Rajya Sabha member Mahendra Bhatt said that both public representatives and officials need to observe restraint in such incidents. Since a case has been registered, time needs to be given for the legal process, he said.

Responding to allegations levelled by the opposition, the BJP State president said that in the past the Congress MLAs had indulged in violence in offices and even pelted stones on homes but had not apologised till date. On the other hand, the BJP categorically condemns such incidents, he said.

Responding to media queries Bhatt said, “The BJP has taken serious cognisance of this incident after which the MLA presented his position in front of the party leadership late on Saturday night. He also expresses regret for the incident. The MLA has also apologised publicly for the incident which took place with the Education officer. I feel that now all should avoid unnecessary discussion on this issue or attempts to escalate it.

The party remains strongly opposed to any type of anarchy or unbecoming behaviour, whether it be a public representative, party office bearer, worker or any other person. At the same time, officers and employees must also consider how they behave with public representatives. Such behaviour is not acceptable to political parties or the people, considering which all need to observe restraint. Since FIRs have been lodged in the matter, time should now be given for the legal procedure,” the BJP State president said.

Referring to allegations levelled by the Congress, he said that it should check its own record. “The State has seen in the past how their MLAs scuffled with IAS officers and one of their MLAs also pelted stones at the home of an officer. In fact, the BJP condemns such incidents. However, there has been no apology for such incidents till date from any Congress State chief, leader or MLA,” Bhatt added.
