Pradesh Congress Committee president Karan Mahara has alleged that the police have registered two FIRs in the Jitendra Kumar suicide case as part of a conspiracy to shield the former Bharatiyta Janata Yuva Morcha leader Himanshu Chamoli.
Addressing a Press conference at Rajiv Bhawan on Saturday, the PCC president said that two FIRs are never registered in one case but Pauri police under pressure from higher ups registered two FIRs. In the first FIR (number 44), the father of the deceased mentioned the video in which Jitendra Kumar had mentioned that Himanshu Chamoli is responsible for his suicide. Mahara said that the police registered another FIR (number 45) on the complaint of some youngsters. He said that the case is not related to illegal weapons as being made out in the second FIR.
Mahara said that the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami who also holds the Home portfolio should take cognisance of the case and suspend the entire police station for the folly. He also demanded that the second FIR registered in the case should be quashed.
The PCC president claimed that the efforts to save Chamoli have started because his connections with senior leaders of the BJP both in the State and in the Centre are known to everyone.
He said that on one hand, the CM is talking to father of Jitendra Kumar, the video of which is being made viral and on the other efforts to weaken the case by registering two FIRs is being made.
Drawing an analogy with the Ankita Bhandari murder case, Mahara said that every effort was made to shield the VIP whom Ankita had mentioned in her chat.
Terming Kumar’s suicide case as yet another proof of deteriorating law and order situation in the State, Mahara said that the police became a mute spectator when the elected Panchayat representatives were abducted by the anti-social elements of BJP.
