Land stabilisation work has finally been started in Jyotirmath which has been affected by land subsidence. The work has been started about three years after subsidence first hit the prominent town in Chamoli district in 2024.

The residents of Jyotirmath had been demanding safety works for a long time. The authorities have finally started land stabilisation work in the town ahead of Holi. The Public Works Department (PWD) has started stabilisation work at the Narsin Mandir here. The start of the land stabilisation work has provided some succour to the locals who have been demanding this for the past three years. According to officials, the first stage of construction of safety wall along the banks of the Alaknanda river from the Marwadi bridge to Vishnuprayag is underway as part of the first stage of the work. As part of the second stage of the work, land stabilisation work has been started in various parts of Jyotirmath town. This has raised hopes among the locals about the safety of land subsidence affected areas in the future. The Jyotirmath sub divisional magistrate Chandrashekhar Vashishth said that the road in the area in which the works are underway will remain closed to traffic in order to ensure that the work is completed without delay.

It is pertinent to mention here that apart from being the winter seat of lord Badrinath, Jyotirmath is also the last major stop on the way to Badrinath Dham and the base for the famous snow sports destination of Auli. The locals have been accusing the government of being apathetic to the disaster that hit Jyotirmath, allegedly due to follies of the authorities.
