The National Cooperative Training Council (NCTC) secretary Meenu Shukla Pathak praised the Uttarakhand Silk Federation’s complete value chain and the ‘waste to best model’, calling it an innovative initiative from the State’s cooperative sector. She said this after her arrival in Dehradun on Thursday on a three-day State visit. On the first day of her visit, she conducted a detailed review of various schemes implemented in Uttarakhand by the Central government. The secretary examined the progress reports of major cooperative institutions in the State, including the State Cooperative Union and the State Cooperative Bank.
During the meeting, additional registrar Ira Uprety and Anand Shukla provided information about the activities of all the institutions through a documentary presentation. The officials also discussed the practical challenges facing the cooperative sector in the State. The additional registrar said that Uttarakhand lacks the necessary land with the required geographic capacity for the Central government’s grain storage scheme. Therefore, it was suggested that the scheme’s capacity be revised to better suit the State’s circumstances.
Further, there was a demand to set targets for the formation of multi-purpose cooperative societies that align with the State’s geographical and economic conditions. This information was presented to the senior officials and the secretary took cognisance of all these points, assuring that they would be brought to the attention of the senior officials in the ministry.
In addition, Pathak praised the State government’s Ghasiyari Kalyan Yojana, stating, “This is a unique scheme from Uttarakhand that should be expanded as a model across the country”.
Shukla said that the secretary’s visit will motivate cooperative institutions and that her guidance will provide a new direction to the State’s cooperative units.
During her three-day visit, the secretary will also inspect the Sahaspur Milk Committee, the silage plant and various cooperative institutions in Haridwar.
