A forest worker was mauled by a tiger lying in ambush while he was on a routine patrol inside the Corbett Tiger Reserve. The swift response from his fellow forest staff, who raised an alarm and drove the tiger away, helped save his life. This incident occurred in Sarpatuli Range, Dhangarhi on Sunday. The injured staffer was identified as Pitambar (32), a resident of Sundarkhal. He has been working as a daily wage forest worker in the Corbett Tiger Reserve. The Forest officials said that he had been patrolling along with a team of forest personnel when the tiger suddenly appeared from behind bushes and sprang upon him.
The accompanying forest staff immediately shouted, forcing the tiger to retreat. Pitambar was pulled out from the animal’s claws and rushed to the Government Hospital in Ramnagar, where he received primary treatment.
The deputy director of Corbett Tiger Reserve, Rahul Mishra said that Pitambar’s condition is stable and he is out of danger. “However, at the request of his family, he is being referred to a higher medical centre for further treatment,” he added.
Following the incident, the Forest department has stepped up vigilance in the area. Officials said that wildlife movement increases during the monsoon season due to dense vegetation, and the field staff have been instructed to exercise extra caution while patrolling the forest.
