Acting on confidential information, the Selaqui police had earlier detained Lolu, a resident of Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir, who was currently residing in DBS College in Selaqui. He was accused of presenting himself as a wealthy individual and concealing his religion while approaching women.

He was initially released after action under Section 172 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police Ajai Singh informed. Singh stated that the police later received a written complaint from the accused’s wife, Nazreen, a resident of Sherpur, Sahaspur in Dehradun, alleging that Lolu had been using the name Raj Ahuja, falsely claiming to be from Delhi, and pretending to be financially well-off to lure women.

Based on further inputs that he had resumed such deceptive activities, the police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against him under Sections 319 and 319(2) of the BNSS at Selaqui police station on Sunday. The accused has since been taken into custody and further legal proceedings are underway. The SSP also cautioned the public to remain vigilant and verify the identity of individuals they interact with to avoid falling victim to such fraudulent behaviour.
