The media plays a vital role in wildlife conservation, the Corbett Tiger Reserve director Saket Badola said. He was addressing a media workshop organised by WWF on the occasion of Wildlife Week.

He emphasised that in today’s digital age, news spreads across the country and even internationally within minutes. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the media to ensure that only verified and accurate information is published. He added that close coordination and communication between the Forest Department and media professionals is essential for effective conservation awareness.

WWF representative Neha highlighted that many species of birds and wildlife are on the verge of extinction due to human lifestyle changes and global warming. She mentioned that shifting climatic patterns are forcing several species to migrate toward higher altitudes, posing a serious threat to ecological balance.

Incidents such as elephant deaths on railway tracks and road accidents involving tigers and leopards are matters of grave concern. She stressed the urgent need to establish wildlife corridors at sensitive locations to prevent such accidents.

Participating journalists suggested that WWF and the Corbett administration should organise similar workshops regularly to help media professionals stay informed with factual updates and a better understanding of wildlife conservation issues.
