Niti Extreme Ultra Run kicks off with 933 athletes from 28 States

The Niti Extreme Ultra Run commenced on Sunday in Chamoli district, attracting 933 athletes from 28 States. Organised by the Tourism department with support from the Indian Army and ITBP, this three-day event aims to promote border tourism, highlight local culture, among others.

Cabinet minister and District in-charge minister Bharat Singh Chaudhary flagged off the run. He said that the State government is working to develop and promote tourism in border regions. Under the leadership of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, this event has become a significant platform for promoting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Fit India campaign in these areas.

Chaudhary said that expanding tourism activities in border villages will create new employment opportunities for local residents and strengthen the second line of defense in these communities. District tourism officer Arvind Gaur stated that the Niti Extreme Ultra Run will take place from May 31st to June 2nd. On the first day, the 75-kilometre ultra run from Rimkhim to Niti and then to Malari featured 117 participants, while the 42-kilometre ultra run from Malari to Niti and then to Malari attracted 118 participants. Five, 10, and 21-kilometre half marathon events will be held in the following days. A 30-kilometre MTB challenge competition is scheduled to take place between Gamsali and Malari during the closing ceremony, he added.
