NSUI warns protest on delay in students’ union election in U’khand

The Uttarakhand president of the Congress’s student affiliate, National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), Vikas Negi stated that if the State government backtracks like last year regarding the student union elections in all the universities and colleges this year too, they would launch a full-blown students’ movement across the State. “These elections must be held on the date fixed by the State government and there should be no going back under any excuse. NSUI is now fully engaged in preparations for these elections,” the youth leader said this while addressing a media conference here on Friday.
Referring to what had happened last year, Negi said that the State government had stopped student union elections in universities and colleges to serve the ruling party’s political interests. “But this time, we will not allow this to repeat. The students’ outfits will fight tooth and nail if such a decision is foisted on us again. So, we appeal to the government to make sure that such polls are held on the date already fixed,” he added.
Negi further said that student union elections in all four colleges of Dehradun affiliated with the Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University should be held as per the orders of the Directorate of Education. “The Education minister’s insistence that the university should conduct elections in all four colleges affiliated to it contradicts the established traditions of holding simultaneous elections in all the universities and colleges in the State. We are of the opinion that the State government should refrain from imposing its policies on universities and colleges. This may harm the educational environment, leaving students worried about their future,” he said.
