Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Dehradun on April 14, the Transport department has lined up more than 2,000 buses for ferrying the multitudes expected to participate in his programme. In addition to beneficiaries of various government schemes, residents of various parts of the State and students from various educational institutions are also expected to be part of the public gathering to be addressed by Modi in Dehradun on Tuesday.
Regional transport officer (Enforcement and Road Safety) Anita Chamola informed that PM Modi’s scheduled programme includes a human chain (roadshow) and a public gathering at the Jaswant Ground in Garhi cantonment. To facilitate their transport, the Transport department has ensured that a sufficient number of buses, Maxi cabs and Tata Magic vehicles are available. These vehicles are being sourced from schools, colleges, local bus services, roadways service and other resources. Approximately 1,200 buses have been deployed to transport beneficiaries from Dehradun, Rishikesh and Vikasnagar, while about 830 buses are coming from Haridwar. Additionally, 300 extra Tata Magic or Maxi Cabs have been arranged for this purpose, she said.
Chamola further informed that the department has coordinated with the relevant departments to assess the transportation requirement based on the expected number of beneficiaries.
