As the city prepares for the proposed arrival of President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Dehradun police conducted an operation against illegal encroachment on roads and footpaths around Parade Ground on Monday. The action targeted vendors obstructing traffic and public movement, resulting in the seizure of goods from 20 individuals. The officials informed that under the direction of Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh, a joint team of Traffic police and Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) officials inspected key areas, including Kanak Chowk, Orient Chowk, Lansdowne Chowk and Darshanlal Chowk on Monday. The police identified shop owners and vendors placing merchandise outside their shops, on carts and on footpaths and then the MCD officials confiscated their goods and took them into their custody. The officials said that keeping public roads and sidewalks clear is essential for pedestrian and vehicle movement. The campaign against illegal encroachment is ongoing and will continue until public spaces are free from obstruction. They stated that these measures are necessary to maintain traffic order, ensure public safety and prepare the city for the high-profile visits. The operation also serves as a warning to vendors that public pathways and roads cannot be used for commercial purposes. Municipal authorities and police personnel will continue regular monitoring and enforcement across the city to prevent further encroachments and maintain civic order, they added.
