Mahila Congress workers detained by police

The president of Uttarakhand Mahila Congress, Jyoti Rautela was detained by the police along with other party workers when they tried to enter Haridwar on Saturday. Rautela claimed that she wanted to hand over a memorandum to Union Home minister Amit Shah on several important issues.
She said Mahila Congress workers were on their way to submit a memorandum to the Home minister in a democratic manner, but were detained by the police for a considerable time. Rautela said that when she expressed her displeasure, a scuffle broke out between the party workers and police in which she suffered an injury.
Expressing strong displeasure over the incident, she said that in a democracy, public representatives and political organizations have the right to express their views. Rautela said that in the memorandum the Mahila Congress wanted to draw the attention of Shah on deteriorating law and order situation in Uttarakhand, the rise in crimes against women, the increasing unemployment among youth and the burden of inflation on general public and justice for Ankita Bhandari.
