PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun

The vice president of Uttarakhand Congress Dhirendra Pratap has said that fast-track courts should be established for all the pending cases of the statehood movement.  Addressing a press conference at Rajiv Bhawan on Friday he said that it is unfortunate the statehood activists are being consistently ignored.

He said that statehood was achieved through long struggles and sacrifices, but those in power are ignoring the fundamental principles of the statehood movement which are health, education and employment.

Pratap said that the liquor mafia and mining mafia are enjoying government protection. He said that the women played a significant role in statehood and made significant sacrifices but crimes against women are constantly increasing. Pratap said that while the State government periodically makes announcements in favour of the statehood activists, their proper implementation is lacking on the ground.

Congress leader Mahesh Joshi said that the basic spirit of State formation is being ignored.
