Preparations for SIR in full swing; DM meets BLAs

In accordance with the guidelines of the Election Commission of India, an important meeting was held between the representatives of recognised political parties of the district and their authorised booth level agents and the district magistrate who is also the district election officer Lalit Mohan Rayal to make the election process in Nainital district more robust, transparent and participatory in the light of the upcoming Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls.
The meeting was informed that the Election Commission of India is likely to formally announce the start of SIR in the first week of April. In view of this, the meeting was held to ensure advance preparation and coordination at the district level. It was also clarified that regular meetings will be held in this regard in the future.
Rayal requested all political parties to appoint their booth level agents at every polling station under each Assembly constituency. He specifically informed that the appointed BLAs should work actively in coordination with the concerned booth level officers so that the revision process can be conducted more effectively and error-free.
The DM further informed that till now, 793 (71.51 per cent) booth level agents of Indian National Congress and 959 (94.95 per cent) booth level agents of Bharatiya Janata Party have been appointed as regards 1010 polling stations in the six Assembly constituencies spread across the district.
As part of the preliminary activities of the Special Intensive Revision, the booth level officers are matching voters from the 2003 electoral roll with the current electoral roll through the BLO app. Out of a total of 7,87, 991 voters, mapping of 6,94,532 voters has been completed, representing a progress of approximately 88.14 percent.
Apart from this, a campaign is being run for identification and registration of voters by BLOs through door-to-door contact. Information was also shared at the meeting regarding the digital initiative of Election Commission of India, Book a Call with BLO, through which voters can directly contact their BLOs and avail the benefits of adding names, making amendments and other election related services.
