The Ramleela Mahotsav organised by Shri Ramakrishna Leela Samiti Tehri (SRLST) was inaugurated in Dehradun on Saturday with a Kalash Yatra. The SRLST, established in 1952 and based in Dehradun, is committed to reviving the ancient Ramleela of Old Tehri. The Ramleela Mahotsav 2025 will take place at Shri Guru Nanak Maidan, Race Course during Sharadiya Navratri, from September 22 to October 3.
The Kalash Yatra began at Paltan Bazaar and made its way through Raja Road, Prince Chowk and Tyagi Road, ultimately reaching Shri Guru Nanak Maidan. The procession featured a variety of tableaux and musical chants, with a special emphasis on traditional musical instruments from Garhwal. SRLST head Abhinav Thapar claimed that after the submergence of Tehri, the committee revived the Ramleela in Dehradun in a grand manner.
The Ramleela held in 2024 was viewed by over 5.5 million people through various media platforms. He said that the Ramleela festival this year will not only showcase the performance but will also highlight Uttarakhand’s cultural heritage, featuring artists from across the State. Modern technology will be utilised to enhance the performances using digital screens and other innovative technologies, Thapar said.
