PIONEER NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

The police have detained the dog owner whose two pet Rottweilers attacked a 75-year-old woman in the Kishanpur area of Rajpur in Dehradun on Sunday morning.

The woman was on her way to a nearby temple early in the morning when the dogs attacked her. During the incident, the dogs bit and tore parts of her hands and ears, leaving her seriously injured. Local residents intervened and managed to rescue the woman from the dogs.

Family members took the injured woman to Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital from where she was later referred to a private hospital reportedly due to her worsening condition.

Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said that the Rajpur police registered an FIR against the dog owner Nafees Ahmed late on Sunday under relevant sections based on a written complaint filed by the victim’s son, Umang Nirwal.

According to the complaint, the same dogs have attacked other residents in the neighbourhood in the past. Local people had earlier raised concerns with the dog owner but he allegedly ignored the warnings. The victim’s family held the owner responsible for negligence, claiming that it led to the attack on the elderly woman.

Singh said that considering this, the police detained the owner on Monday and further action will be taken in coordination with the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD). Besides this, the victim’s condition was also stable on Monday but she is yet to undergo multiple surgeries in the coming days.
