INDI Alliance to protest in Doon seeking land ownership rights for residents of various settlements

INDI Alliance parties will demonstrate at the Gandhi Park in Dehradun on February 25 in support of the demand for granting revenue village status to Bindukhatta, Bapugrap, Puchdi, Bagjala along with land ownership rights for residents here and in various other settlements in the State.
Addressing the media along with other alliance leaders at the Congress Bhawan, former chief minister and senior Congress leader Harish Rawat said the then Congress government cabinet had taken a decision on December 26, 2016 which was also notified.
According to this decision, the residents of these settlements were to be given land ownership rights based on ten points. Tehri dam displaced and Van Gujjars relocated from forests were also to be given land ownership rights. Tribal residents of border village Gunji who had settled on government land for generations should also be given ownership rights along with residents of slums, according to the 2016 law passed by the Vidhan Sabha, he said.
Samajwadi Party leader SN Sachan alleged that instead of protecting the deprived people, the State government is working in the interests of capitalists. CPI leader Samar Bhandari alleged that the government intends to collect lands and provide these to the corporate world. CPI- ML State secretary Indresh Maikhuri claimed that an attempt is being made to scare the residents of Bindukhatta and Bapugram to take away their land.
