The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has intensified the Rispana river revival and cleaning drive, deploying 12 JCB machines and 15 dumpers to remove garbage, debris and obstructions from the river stretch. The large-scale operation is being carried out as part of the ongoing river rejuvenation campaign across the city.

Dehradun municipal commissioner Alok Kumar Pandey said that the civic body has been running a special cleanliness drive since March under a 100 day mission and nearly 17,000 metric tonnes of waste has already been lifted. “Cleaning work is being actively carried out along Rispana and Bindal rivers along with major drains and the focus is on ensuring effective river restoration before the monsoon,” he said.

Following this, the mayor Saurabh Thapliyal inspected the ongoing work in the Rajiv Nagar area along with the district magistrate Ashish Chauhan and reviewed the progress on the ground. Thapliyal directed all departments to maintain speed and quality of work, stressing that pre-monsoon river cleaning is a top priority for flood prevention and urban drainage improvement.

Chauhan said that under the Namami Gange programme and District Sanitation Committee, a long-term action plan is being prepared to identify garbage-prone zones and prevent sewage discharge into the river.

The joint effort between MCD and the district administration is being implemented on a war footing to ensure timely rejuvenation of the Rispana river.
