Road safety & traffic rules awareness: Transport dept goes digital

To enhance public awareness regarding road safety, traffic regulations and more, the Transport department has opted for digital platforms for broader outreach. This initiative will also benefit individuals planning to undertake the Char Dham Yatra this year.
Providing further details, the deputy transport commissioner Shailesh Tiwari said that the Transport department is actively involved in enforcing traffic regulations and educating the public about the road safety norms. He said that usually, the department would organise awareness programmes related to traffic rules and road safety at schools, colleges and other relevant locations. “However, these programmes were often attended by a limited audience of around 200 to 300 people. This is not enough for our purpose, so we decided to go digital,” he added.
“This initiative to inform the public through digital media was opted earlier, but the department is now more serious about this,” he said, adding that they are using multiple digital platforms for these awareness campaigns.
“This includes providing detailed information on traffic rules, driving licenses and road safety on their website, transport.uk.gov.in. Additionally, we are posting video reels on road safety and traffic regulations on our Instagram, Facebook and YouTube pages,” he further informed.
Stating that Facebook and Instagram record 10 lakh views per month, he said that the initiative specifically targets the young adults. “Further, this digital initiative will assist visitors of the Char Dham Yatra, as these platforms feature information related to the Char Dham pilgrimage- dos and don’ts.”
Importantly, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and transport minister Pradeep Batra have also stressed the importance of raising such awareness through social media platforms.
