Scuffle at GDMC’s emergency: District Hospital to write to SSP for faster police response

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun
The Deen Dayal Upadhyay District Hospital administration has decided to write to the senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh, requesting improved police response times in emergency situations within the hospital premises, following a recent scuffle at the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital’s Emergency department resulting in on duty doctors’ harassment.
Recently, a brawl had occurred at GDMC Hospital, where one group accused another of assault and misbehaved with doctors and security staff. In reaction to this, the doctors had chosen to suspend their work temporarily. This incident had worried the GDMC hospital administration, making them to think seriously of the safety of both healthcare professionals and patients. Later, the GDMC hospital administration had sent a letter to the SSP, requesting improvements in the response time of the police response team. Thereafter, the administration of the District Hospital became more vigilant about the safety and security within their hospital.
The principal medical superintendent of the District Hospital, Dr Manu Jain while providing detailed information regarding security measures in place at the facility stated that though the hospital maintains adequate security the Emergency department becomes vulnerable in the night hours due to an influx of individuals who are inebriated. “To address this, there is currently one PRD guard assigned to the Emergency area, along with two additional guards. Further, a police post operates within the hospital premises. Yet we feel that security should be further enhanced in view of what has recently happened at GDMC,” he said.
“To make things fool-proof, we are mulling to write to the SSP, asking him to ensure that police personnel who patrol the vicinity of the hospital arrive promptly in case any emergency arises. What we mean to say is that their response time should be further improved,” he added.
