The Union Home Minister Amit Shah handed citizenship certificates to 162 refugees who, persecuted, had come to India from Pakistan and Afghanistan, desiring citizenship under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) 2019. Shah said that these refugees had come to India in search of peace and security after facing severe harassment and persecution in their native countries.

Among them was Shailesh from Balochistan, Pakistan, who used to serve Hinglaj Mata temple there as a priest. “I had to leave due to persecution on the basis of my religious identity,” he recounted. Another of them was Jaspal Kumar from Bhattagram in Pakistan. He told the same tale of religious persecution.  Two others were Durganath T Rajput from Karachi, Pakistan, and Hanseri Bai from Afghanistan. They looked delighted while receiving their Indian citizenship certificates on the stage from none other than the Union Home Minister.

Shah also launched the E-Zero FIR system in the State. The system has been introduced under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita to help victims of cyber fraud involving more than Rs one lakh. Complaints received through the 1930 helpline or the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal will now be registered as E-Zero FIRs at the State Cyber Police Station in Dehradun and then sent to the concerned police stations through the CCTNS system.

Officials said the system will help police take quick action, collect evidence early and freeze suspicious transactions to increase the chances of recovering the lost money.

Further, Shah distributed appointment letters to 2,000 newly recruited constables of Uttarakhand.
