Nine specialist doctors to be appointed in Srinagar medical college

The Health minister, Dhan Singh Rawat has approved the appointment of nine specialist doctors on a contract basis at the Government Medical College in Srinagar. According to Rawat, appointing these specialists in various departments will significantly enhance the educational activities at the medical college and provide better training for MBBS students.
The State government is consistently working to address the shortage of faculty members in its government medical colleges. In this context, the interview committee headed by the vice chancellor of Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Uttarakhand Medical Education University, conducted walk-in interviews and selected nine specialist doctors. The committee has submitted the appointment proposals to the State government, which approved the appointments, he added.
The selected specialist doctors will serve at the Government Medical College in Srinagar under contract. The appointments include Dr Kuldeep Singh as professor in the department of Cardiology, Dr Devendra Kumar in the department of Neurosurgery and Dr Indira Yadav in the department of Radiotherapy. Additionally, Dr Saurabh Sachhar has been appointed as associate professor in the department of Radiodiagnosis, Dr Vicky Bakshi in the department of Respiratory Medicine and Dr Sheeba Rana in the department of ENT. Dr Nidhi Bahuguna will join as assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, while Dr Sufian Khan will serve in the department of Ophthalmology and Dr Chhatra Pal will join the department of Emergency Medicine.
All of these specialist doctors have been appointed for a period of three years or until regular appointments are made for these positions, whichever comes first, he said.
He added that with these faculty members in place, patients can expect improved treatment at the affiliated hospitals. The appointment of these specialist doctors will also enhance teaching and training activities. The State government aims to achieve 100 per cent faculty deployment in medical colleges, Rawat said.
