Developing local and scientific solutions to local problems will enable Uttarakhand to become a development model for the nation. The State’s first Science, Technology and Innovation Policy (STIP) has been prepared with this intention in mind.

In addition to this, the Science City being built in Dehradun will provide modern facilities to the youth which will lend wings to their dreams. Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said this while inspecting the Science City works and participating in a dialogue on STIP at the Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology (UCOST) here on Monday.

Addressing the gathering, Dhami said that in the future, the Science City here will emerge as a leading centre for science, innovation and research for the nation’s students, researchers and scientists. Under the Vigyan Setu initiative, the CM also inaugurated Vigyan Vani community radio (88.8 megahertz), Vigyan Drishyam and Vigyan Dhara on the occasion, stating that these efforts will extend the reach of knowledge from laboratories to the remote areas of the State. Referring to the ongoing Harela week, he said that at a time when the world is facing the challenges of global warming and environmental problems, Harela sends a message of development and nature complementing each other. “The world is passing through a period of unprecedented technical changes. Robots are now working in fields ranging from factories to hospitals. Human intelligence is reaching new heights with the help of artificial intelligence while emerging technologies like data science, semiconductors and biotechnology are deciding the world’s direction and condition.

The CM said that the State government is working to develop Uttarakhand into a global hub of science, technology and modern research. The implementation of the State’s first Science, Technology and Innovation Policy is a step in this direction. This policy is aimed at developing a self-reliant ecosystem which enables the youth to become a job creator through innovative ideas. This policy will not limit science to laboratories but become an effective medium to connect it to the life of the general public. “The State’s geography presents many challenges but the Himalaya is also our biggest strength while our biodiversity, precious medicinal herbs, perennial water sources, organic agriculture and a rich cultural heritage are our real wealth,” he said.

Science and Technology minister Pradeep Batra, Sahaspur MLA Sahdev Singh Pundir, UCOST director general Durgesh Pant and others were also present on the occasion.
