Talwar couple starts Doon-Delhi padyatra on spiralling population woes

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun

Dinesh Talwar and Disha Talwar, residents of Saraswati Lok in Meerut, who have been raising their voice for the past 32 years for population control, have started their padyatra from Gandhi Park in Dehradun on Thursday.  The Talwar couple, who have so far campaigned in over 400 cities and written thousands of letters to the government, said that they had tried to meet Uttarakhand’s chief minister. However, no chief minister has so far agreed to meet the couple. Undaunted, they are still hopeful that the government would in the end wake up on this issue.

Dinesh Talwar said that the country’s population had spiralled from 33 crore in 1947 to close to 150 crore presently. “This is a burning issue and should be addressed appropriately,” he added. As part of the foot march, the Talwar couple will reach Delhi’s Jantar Mantar via Muzaffarnagar, Meerut and Ghaziabad while campaigning for population control.
