Teenage girl’s body found in Dehradun dam

The body of a 16-year-old girl from Uttarkashi was found in Koti Ichari dam in Dakpatthar area of Dehradun district on Friday. 

The officials said that the girl had been reported missing a day earlier and search operations were underway when the discovery was made. According to information provided by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), the police outpost at Dakpatthar received a call stating that a woman had gone missing in the Shakti canal near Kulhal. Following the report, an SDRF team under the leadership of sub-inspector Suresh Tomar was sent from the Dakpatthar post to conduct a search operation in the area.

While the team was carrying out the search, the Vikasnagar police station informed that a body had been spotted near the Koti Ichari dam. The officials stated that acting on this input, the SDRF team moved to the location and began retrieval efforts. The team successfully recovered the body from the dam. They stated that the police later identified the deceased as Shabina, a resident of Aglad village in Mori area of Uttarkashi district.

The girl had allegedly jumped into the river from the Jhoolapul suspension bridge in Mori a couple of days ago. The recovered body was handed over to the district police for necessary legal formalities. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, as per the officials.
