Tiwari says MDDA aims to transform ISBT into model of cleanliness and order

After chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s recent inspection of Dehradun ISBT, in which he expressed disappointment over improper cleaning and directed authorities to improve conditions, the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) vice chairperson Banshidhar Tiwari directed officials to create a comprehensive, 24-hour plan for facility cleanup and mandated accountability for all cleaning personnel to prevent any inaction.

The ISBT carries a high responsibility for maintaining cleanliness and order for the thousands of daily travellers. Following Dhami’s unannounced visit on Tuesday, where he personally swept the area, the administration activated its plan to transform the facility. Tiwari convened a detailed meeting with MDDA and ISBT officials to review the entire premises’ cleaning system.

A large-scale cleanliness drive was also conducted involving all MDDA and ISBT employees. During the drive, officials distributed polybags to bus operators, drivers and conductors. They instructed them to collect trash inside buses and dispose of it in designated bins rather than littering the premises. Tiwari said that all ISBT employees will now conduct an intensive cleanliness drive every Wednesday.

This organised, regular effort will focus on deep cleaning restrooms, drinking water points, waiting halls and bus platforms, ensuring the facility remains consistently clean and travel-friendly. He stated that public awareness plays the most critical role in maintaining cleanliness at public sites like the ISBT. The ongoing campaign informs travellers, drivers and employees that adopting habits of cleanliness is essential. This includes using dustbins, preventing litter, safely disposing of bus waste and cooperating to keep the complex clean.

Tiwari said that the MDDA’s ongoing campaign, coupled with the administrative activation following the CM’s inspection, demonstrates that collaborative action by the administration and the public secures change. This effort extends beyond just cleaning the ISBT, it marks a significant step toward improving the overall image of Dehradun city, he added.
