PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun
The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has decided to adopt a strict approach towards property tax recovery, with a special focus on long-pending commercial property tax defaulters in the provisional State capital.
To strengthen the recovery drive, the corporation will take assistance from Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL), Peyjal Nigam and the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA).
For the financial year 2025–26, the municipal corporation has set a target of Rs 75 crore for property tax collection. According to official data, Rs 35 crore has been collected so far. In the first phase, notices will be issued to major commercial property owners who have been defaulting on tax payments.
Municipal commissioner Namami Bansal said that newly constructed commercial properties will also be brought under the tax net to prevent future evasion. Data will be shared with UPCL, Peyjal Nigam and MDDA to identify unregistered commercial establishments in the city. She added that action against other categories of defaulters will follow in subsequent phases.
Meanwhile, the municipal corporation has also intensified enforcement in sanitation and regulatory matters to strengthen revenue and improve civic services in Dehradun.
