In an effort to promote tourism in Tehri, trekking expeditions will be organised at nine locations across the district during the Tehri Lake Festival, which will take place from March 6 to 9. Participants will not only have the opportunity to witness the beauty of the Himalayas but also to immerse themselves in rural life, said the district magistrate Nitika Khandelwal.
She further stated that the purpose of these trekking expeditions extends beyond mere adventure activities. “This initiative is a significant step toward promoting local tourism, bolstering rural economy and establishing Tehri as an adventure destination,” she said, adding that trained guides would accompany tourists during the expeditions and adequate arrangements have been made for their safety and comfort.
An “Astro Night” event will also be held during the festival, offering participants a chance for stargazing under clear skies. The combination of daytime trekking and a nighttime planetarium experience would provide a deeper connection with nature, she said.
According to the officials associated with the event, the Tehri Lake Festival will be inaugurated by chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on March 6.
Thanks to the lake, Tehri has recently become a major destination for water sports. However, it offers much more to tourists, particularly trekking routes through mountain slopes, forests and meadows. To provide tourists with a unique experience, the district administration is organising trekking expeditions in rural areas. The programme for March 7 includes, Thangadhar Kotia to Agan (five km), Mandar to Peedi Parvat (seven km), Agrakhal to Kasamoli World Trail (eight km) and Devalsari to Nag Tibba (eight km). Additionally, the trekking routes for March 8 include Tehri Lake to Kottha Picnic Spot – (four km), Gaja to Ghantakarna Temple – (four km) Gaja to Dandachli (10 km), among others.
