Agitated by the filing of chargesheets against Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and other leaders by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the National Herald case the workers of Uttarakhand Congress held a vehement protest in Dehradun on Wednesday. The agitation was part of the nationwide protest by the Congress party on the issue.
Led by the leader of opposition in Vidhan Sabha Yashpal Arya, former Pradesh Congress Committee president Pritam Singh and vice president (organization) Suryakant Dhasmana large number of party workers assembled at Parade Ground from where they took out a protest march to the ED office located at Cross Road. Here they raised slogans against the union government, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the ED.
Speaking on the occasion, Arya said that the Modi government at the Centre is prejudiced and is misusing ED, CBI and other investigation agencies against the Gandhi family. He said that it is ridiculous to chargesheet Sonia Gandhi, who refused the post of Prime Minister in 2004 and 2009 despite having the opportunity and full majority, by making baseless allegations of money laundering. He said that today Rahul Gandhi is the only leader in the country who is speaking openly and fighting against the divisive policies of RSS and BJP without any fear.
Former PCC president Pritam Singh said that if Modi Government thinks that it will silence the Congress leaders by threatening them with jail and lathi then it is their mistake because they should remember that when in 1977 Janta Government tried to intimidate Indira Gandhi and sent her to jail then whole India stood up against this.
A minor scuffle broke out between Congress workers and Police when the former tried to cross the barricade in front of the ED office. The LoP Arya, Pritam Singh and Dhasmana sat on the road in protest against the Police action. They along with Mahanagar Congress president Jaswinder Singh Gogi, Parwa Doon district president Mohit Uniyal, chief spokesperson Garima Dasauni and other party workers courted arrest. They were taken to the police line from where all were later released on bonds. Former Ministers Nav Prabhat, Hira Singh Bisht, NSUI state president Vikas Negi, former MLA Rajkumar, Jayendra Ramola and others took part in the protest.
