The Uttarakhand government has demanded a supply of 9.68 lakh commercial LPG cylinders to the State from the Central government in view of the ongoing Char Dham Yatra. A request in this regard was made by chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami when he met Union Petroleum and Natural Gas minister Hardeep Singh Puri in New Delhi on Monday.

In the meeting, the CM requested that the supply of commercial LPG cylinders be maintained at 100 per cent as before for the smooth, safe and uninterrupted conduct of the Char Dham Yatra. He informed that during the Yatra from April to November, lakhs of devotees from India and abroad arrive in the State, leading to a significant increase in the demand for commercial LPG. During this period, the state requires approximately 9,67,949 commercial LPG cylinders.

Dhami told Puri that Uttarakhand faces natural disasters every year during the monsoon season (June to September). He said that mountainous terrain and difficult conditions make LPG gas crucial in disaster management and relief operations. In this context, he requested the allocation of an additional five per cent (approximately 48,397 cylinders) of commercial cylinders to ensure effective and prompt relief and rescue operations.

The CM said that Uttarakhand’s economy is primarily tourism-based, with religious tourism, pilgrimage and adventure tourism playing a significant role. The Char Dham Yatra is a key pillar of the state’s faith, cultural identity and economic activities, he said.

The two leaders held detailed discussions on various other issues during the meeting.

On his part, Puri gave positive consideration to all the proposals presented by the CM and assured necessary action and reiterated the commitment of the Central government towards the interests of the State.
