The Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with University of Patanjali under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA). It was signed in the presence of the Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Virendra Kumar in New Delhi.
Addressing the gathering, Kumar said that the collaboration of religious and spiritual organisations to conduct various activities under NMBA would help transform the campaign into a mass movement. “Over 16 crore youth and over six crore women have joined the drive so far whose objective is to reach as many people as possible and to create awareness about the substance menace, focusing on higher educational institutions, university campuses, and schools,” he added.
The vice-chancellor, University of Patanjali, Mayank Kumar Agarwal, who signed the MoU on behalf of the university, highlighted the significant work being done by them and other Patanjali institutions in the social sector, including health, wellness, women’s empowerment and a drug-free India under the guidance of Yoga Guru Swami Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna. “Patanjali Wellness Centres have freed thousands of youth from the clutches of drug addiction, who are now leading normal lives. We will continue to play a vital role in inspiring people to adopt a drug-free, healthy lifestyle through yoga and meditation,” he declared.
He further stated that under the MoU, the University of Patanjali would engage youth in schools, colleges and educational institutions with this campaign, adding that they would organise rallies, seminars, workshops and events while roping in Patanjali’s media platforms for awareness programmes and publicity.
