Uttarakhand government will provide free pre-recruitment training for Agniveer applicants across all districts through the Sports and Youth Welfare Department. The department has released an SOP for the process. Following the directions of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the department will offer free training to young men and women who aim to serve the country by joining the Army as Agniveers. The training will begin soon in all 13 districts. The department has prepared guidelines for participation. As per their guidelines, interested candidates must be permanent residents of Uttarakhand or currently studying or employed in the State. Applicants must have passed the high school examination with at least 45 per cent marks and a minimum of 33 per cent in each subject. The minimum age required is 16 years. Candidates must register at the district sports office or the district youth welfare office. A health certificate issued by a medical practitioner is mandatory. Trainees must attend sessions in a sports kit, including T-shirt, shorts, sports shoes and socks. The guidelines state that candidates must not have tattoos or any artificial permanent marks on the body. Training will take place only under departmental instructors appointed at sports stadiums or grounds in each district. The CM said that the initiative aligns with Uttarakhand’s long military tradition, where many families have members serving in the armed forces. The State government has already announced reservation benefits for Agniveers in government jobs after their service period. Dhami stated that this training will support the youth in preparing for Agniveer recruitment and will help them pursue a career in the armed forces and continue the military tradition in Uttarakhand.
